This 2005 BMW 330i has visited our new projects division here at Draycott Engineering. So, buckle up and prepare for a story of speed, oh and doughnuts; because we like a doughnut………A “normal” BMW 3 litre petrol engine is the Inline 6 cylinder engine which outputs a very nice 225 Horse Power at 5900 rpm and has torque of 214 ft-lbs at 3500rpm. This customer wasn’t impressed and wanted something a little more….actually scratch that, he wanted more speed, more power and a lot more noise.
So…..Gauntlet thrown down AND challenge accepted. Our performance team had a round(ish) table meeting which was ably supported by RedBull (other energy drinks are available), Jam Doughnuts and a great many biscuits and we came up with a plan. We jotted it down, presented it and wouldn’t you know it the Customer loved it. So we sprung into action faster than a very fast springy thing.
The pictures below are of the Dodge Challenger 5.7 Litre Hemi V-8 which now takes pride of place under the “hood” (to be somewhat American) this engine, as standard, outputs 395 Horse Power at 5,600 rpm and a whiplash generating 410 lb-ft @ 3,950 rpm. Making it fit the engine bay was, at first, something of a challenge but there’s no challenge we’ll shy away from. But, that wasn’t enough. Atop the Engine sits a Whipple Supercharger which adds another 170 Brake Horsepower giving this innocent looking Family Estate car a not very innocent 565 Horse Power.
This Beast is still a work in progress but we are scheduled to turn the key for the first time sometime next week. When you hear a series of thunderous roars next week, turn up your collar and run for cover fear not! Because thunder, rain and hailstones the size of a Fiat 500 may not be about to hit your umbrella with fearsome force it’s likely just us revving this beast.
